My Struggle with Weight | Weight Watchers Success Stories

Broghies & WeightWatchers: Tips & Tricks

My story: I struggle with my weight. One year I’m 110 pounds and the next I’m a size 14 (I’m ashamed to write my current weight here so I’m going by size). I have heaps of clothes to fit almost any size range. I get rid of the fat clothes because, “I’ll never get that big again.” Then I get bigger. Now, I’m the biggest I’ve ever been. My body is uncomfortable. Stairs make me breathe heavy. I am wearing clothes that don’t cut me in half, and have given-up wearing make-up every day. My cholesterol is through the roof and I’m tired all the time.

What I’m doing about it…

A wise person once said, “If you could do it yourself, you’d have done it by now.” They were right. I knew how to eat Atkins-style but had a hard time staying on it because I love bread, fruit and rice. I know if you cheat your body goes out of ketosis and you have to wait for your body to get back on track. I was tired of being careful about what I ate. I decided to try Weight Watchers because you can eat everything within reason. They even give you cheat points.

I found a Groupon for Weight Watchers and a couple of my friends had, had success so I thought I’d give it a whirl. I chose the package where I had to attend meetings – to stay accountable. I was assigned 35 points a day and an extra 35 points a week. At first I was confused but the app was simple. 99.9 percent of what I ate I could scan or was 0 points.

The first week I had a hard time eating all of the points – fruit and vegetables are 0 points and I was in a regular fruit coma. I filled a fruit bowl at work for everyone because if I had to eat it, they did too. I work for a company that always has snacks on hand – so I had to add fruit so I wouldn’t be tempted.

I attended the meetings and it turns out I had demolished my metabolism for a very long time from…not eating enough and eating crap when I did eat. I ate a big lunch every day – that’s it and maybe a piece of cheese for dinner. I was worried I had to eat breakfast. With Weight Watchers, you don’t. You don’t even have to drink copious amounts of water.

The people at the Weight Watchers meeting are full of great tips and tricks. One of them kindly gave me a weekly grocery list.

The Weekly Weight Watchers Grocery List for 35 Points a Day:

I went to the grocery store on my way home and picked-up everything I needed except Broghies. What the heck were Broghies popped grains? I went home and Googled Broghies, used their store locator and picked them up in the bakery department at my local grocery store. They are a lifesaver and have become a staple in my diet. They are round, saucer-sized discs, that are crunchy – a true bread replacement.

Best part? Broghies Tostada are only 1 Weight Watchers point per unit. They last at least four weeks and are the same price of bread. I eat Broghies with omelettes on them, with chicken, vegetables and salsa. Pinterest and Instagram has some great Broghies recipes. They have no fat, are low carb, no preservatives and great for diabetics. For a treat I drizzled chocolate sauce over bananas on the Broghie.

Weight Watchers told me it may take a while for my body’s metabolism to get used to working properly. So I’d be up and down when I weighed in. Within a month I had lost 10 pounds. I had to eat more and regularly.

I continue my journey of learning to eat properly and while it’s not a big weight loss so far I am committed to learn how to eat. I’m still struggling getting to the gym, but this is a lifestyle change. When I lose more weight I hope to have more energy to get there.

Thank you Broghies for being a large part of my weekly diet.
